On the morning of November 8, 2024, the Business School held the 24th lecture of the Business School Academic Excellence Lecture Theatre 2024 in Room 615 of the Main Teaching Building of the South College Road Campus of Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE). The lecture invited Professor Xu Kaiquan from Renmin University of China as the sharing guest. Professors and graduate students of the College attended the event.

The meeting was hosted by Professor Gu Leilei of the Business School. Before the lecture started, Professor Gu Leilei introduced Professor Xu Kaiquan's biography in detail. Professor Xu Kaiquan is a professor in the Department of Marketing, Business School, Renmin University of China, with research interests in quantitative marketing, and his recent research interests include artificial intelligence and marketing, analyzing unstructured data, and casual labor economy. The main methods used in his research include econometric analysis, machine learning, and field experiments. His research results have been published in journals such as Marketing Science.

Professor Xu's talk is titled “Enhancing Service Quality in Ride-hailing with In-Car Monitoring”. He examined the impact of increased awareness of monitoring on service quality by working with a leading ride-hailing platform in Asia. Using a large-scale randomized field experiment that altered drivers' perceptions of monitoring under more stringent and less stringent conditions, the study found that drivers who perceived more stringent monitoring had significantly higher service quality, as measured by passenger ratings. This improvement was mainly due to a decrease in negative ratings rather than an increase in positive ratings, suggesting that perceptions of increased monitoring mainly reduced “bad” behavior. In addition, older drivers responded more positively to stricter monitoring than younger drivers. However, an unintended consequence was an increase in resistance to stricter monitoring. These findings provide insights into how monitoring affects service quality in the online taxi industry and offer recommendations for practitioners.

After the sharing, in response to the theme of Professor Xu's lecture, the participating professors and students actively discussed topics such as high-level paper publication and research design, which further deepened the in-depth exchange of academic research.
